Lewiston Circle of Honor Veterans Memorial
The Lewiston, New York Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 has completed a major redesign project that transformed the current Lewiston Veterans Memorial at Academy Park into one of the region’s most renowned sites that pays tribute to those who have served our country. It is called the “Circle of Honor” and features a large granite platform with the eagle defense symbol.

About the Memorial
A new 23 foot diameter granite platform features a large engraved image of the U.S. defense symbol — a unique and spectacular Circle of Honor that heightens awareness and reinforces the respect due our military veterans.
The eternal flame is positioned within the granite centerpiece and is protected from the elements and kept safely out reach of visitors. Engraved on the top of the centerpiece it read:
“America’s Flame Burns Brightly, Fueled by the Courage
and Sacrifice of Those Who Have Defended Our Freedoms.”
The new Memorial has been brought to one level, rather than the previous version’s step down. More visitor friendly and much easier to see and read the inscribed names of those we honor.
The new flagpoles are proportional and height appropriate and are illuminated with LED lights.

Below are some images from the 2019 Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony and Memorial Day 2021. Previously, names on the memorial were limited to VFW members or those born in Lewiston. Now, all veterans who have been raised, educated, worked or lived in Lewiston are eligible. Thousands of veterans who have Lewiston ties, and who have served our country, can be honored by having their names inscribed on the stones surrounding the Circle of Honor.
